Richard Taylor shows
Richard first pressed his lips to a microphone back in 1982, when he started his deejay career at the ‘Sunday Bop’ at the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall. He became a DJ there on and off until 1993. He branched out, purchased his own equipment and began a mobile DJ career too.
Richard has also been a club DJ in London, driving up and down to the capital from Portsmouth every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for four years between 2003 and 2007.
Richard first dipped his toe in the radio pool in 1992 when he had a brief career at Portsmouth Hospital Radio. This was cut short with a Royal Navy posting to sea. It was enough to whet Richard’s passion for radio though and when he was posted to Liverpool for two years, he got involved in Hospital Radio once again, presenting a weekly show. During his tenure there, he completed a 24 non-stop broadcast for charity.
On his return to Portsmouth, Richard once again volunteered at Portsmouth Hospital Radio. But it wasn’t long until he heard about Radio Victory and jumped ship! It was the best move he ever made. Starting out with an hourly mid-week show on Nynex Cable Radio, this progressed to a daily weekday show. Richard was also involved in two Restricted Service Licences, a short-term FM licence covering special events, and broadcast a show between 4pm and 7pm each weekday.
When Radio Victory was successful in its application for a permanent FM licence, Richard did the weekend breakfast show. This quickly progressed to Drive Time and then onto the weekly Breakfast Show five days a week.
Having not been on radio for a number of years, when Victory Online rose from the radio ashes, Richard seized the opportunity to once again broadcast to Victoryland and is excited to be on air again weekdays from 4pm to 7pm. His show will feature local news, community news, On This Day in History, who you share your birthday with, three hits from one year, Joke Du Jour and plenty more.
In his spare time, Richard likes to cycle, the theatre, dining out and tasting fine wines. He also has a penchant for travel and lists the Philippines as one of his favourite destinations.
