Gary is a Hampshire man, born in Emsworth, lived in Waterlooville, and educated in Purbrook, Havant and studied journalism at Highbury College, worked for British Gas in Sales and marketing at the Commercial Road showroom and Guildhall Square HQ and worked in a similar role for the BMW dealership Volker Harms in Old Portsmouth.

PHB Portsmouth Hospital Broadcasting was his first on air experience, along with mobile discos.

“Hospital Radio was the best training ground. You did a bit of everything and getting on-air wasn’t instant, you had to work your way up. I used to love going round the wards, meeting patents and then playing their music requests from 9-10pm that same evening. Met some great people who I’m still in touch with.”

Gary did some work on Radio Victory, not long after they went on air.

“Howard Pearce, Glenn Richards and Dave Christian are all people I should thank for my formative years, sitting in the studio with Dave Christian filling out his record returns was an education!”

Moving to full time journalism for Motoring News and subbing on the Sunday Mirror, and then on to TV as a Presenter and Reporter at TV.am for 10 years, before moving to Sky News, and then work with Middle East broadcasting where he was reunited with his love of radio. I set up and ran three radio stations broadcasting across the Middle East. Chart Hits, Oldies & a Rock station. As I was in charge it was easy to employ myself as a Presenter! State of the art studios in London broadcasting across the Gulf.

These days Gary still works in TV, producing sport and news programming for various broadcasters, including leading coverage off General Elections, Royal Weddings and Funerals and covering horse racing for Dubai Racing Channel. Gary is also the voice of Silverstone.

“I love the telly work, leading amazing teams that create great programmes, but first love has always been radio, it’s so reactive and interactive. Going  to work is like doing my hobby and waking up our Victory listeners in the area that’s my life, honestly it’s such a privilege.”
